In 2010 the next class will be Master Planning of Resources will be held at the main IBM campus in Essex.  The current class is Basics of Supply Chain Management and is just about to wrap up.  The next class begins sometime in April.  Classes are generally held on consecutive Wednesday nights for at least seven weeks.

  Classes are generally held on consecutive Wednesday nights for at least seven weeks. The next class will be Master Planning of Resources begining sometime in April at the IBM campus in Essex.  Class will meet weekly on Wednesdays at 5:30pm.  Classes usually meet until 9pm and are generally finished in seven weeks.  


Introducing the APICS CPIM Recertification Exam

Introducing the APICS CPIM Recertification Exam
APICS is pleased to announce that a new certification product is being
developed this year. The APICS Certified in Production and Inventory
Management (CPIM) Recertification Exam was approved by the APICS Leadership
Team in February 2010.

The  APICS  CPIM  Recertification  Exam  provides  a  unique opportunity to
individuals  whose  CPIM  credentials  have expired and previously had been
required  to  retake all five CPIM exams. Instead, candidates now can renew
their  certifications  by taking a single exam. This exam will be available
only through December 31, 2011.

The  three-hour exam will consist of 120 multiple-choice questions. It will
include  30  items  taken  from  each  of  the  following modules: Detailed
Scheduling  and  Planning,  Master  Planning  of  Resources,  Execution and
Control of Operations, and Strategic Management of Resources. There will be
no unscored items on this exam.

Take the APICS CPIM Recertification Exam at APICS 2010
Candidates will have the opportunity to take a paper-and-pencil exam at the
2010 APICS International Conference & Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The
exam is scheduled for October 17, 2010. The next opportunity to take the
exam will be in December 2010.

Certified Supply Chain Professional Review Series

Class Description: The APICS Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) Learning System is a comprehensive
course based on the APICS CSCP body of knowledge. It provides education in the areas of supplier and customer
relations, international trade, the use of information technology, and physical logistics. The learning system provides
excellent preparation for a professional seeking the APICS CSCP designation.

The CSCP Learning System combines print materials with interactive on-line components and facilitated classroom
discussion to deliver a customized learning experience. The course is organized into four learning modules:

Module 1: Supply Chain Management Fundamentals

Module 2: Building Competitive Operations, Planning and Logistics

Module 3: Managing Customer and Supplier Relationships

Module 4: Using Information Technology to Enable Supply Chain Management

Class Schedule:

The CSCP Learning System will be distributed at the first Group meeting on April 7th.
The Learning System will be reviewed as well as the on-line tools.

The Group will then have seven meetings for the module material and a review session.
Everyone should be prepared for the Group meeting having read the material.

The purpose of the Group meeting is to ask questions, have discussion and explore the different aspects
of the Supply Chain concepts. The Group meeting is scheduled for 4-hours on Wednesday evenings from 5pm - 9pm.

This is a tentative schedule and can be altered (day of the week) based on the response of those planning to attend.

Cost:

The cost of the CSCP Review Series is $1500 for APICS Members/$1800 for Non-Members.

This does not include the cost of the exam which is $575 for APICS Members/$725 for Non Members.

Lean Enterprise Workshop Series


As more organizations decide to go lean, demand is escalating for a skilled team and systemwide approach for developing and implementing lean project plans. This course is designed to equip you with the broad knowledge and tools to map the transformation for developing a lean culture at your organization.

This workshop will allow you to

  • Complete a self-assessment to determine your organization's readiness to implement lean
  • Gain practical experience analyzing how to incorporate lean into organizations
  • Leave with a project plan for implementing lean into your organization

The APICS Lean Enterprise Workshop Series is organized to enable you to approach and understand the lean transformation process systematically. Using scenarios from a fictitious company, Murphy's Toys, you will be tasked with finding lean solutions to a myriad of challenges. This method will provide you with the flexibility to immediately customize what you've learned and implement it at your own organization.

There are seven workshops in the series:
Introduction
You will gain an overview of the many components of implementing
a lean transformation in your organization and gauge your
organization's readiness through a hands-on assessment.

Lean Culture
Explore the effects of a lean implementation on your employees
and learn about the importance of teams. The Kaizen, a team-
oriented continuous improvement event will be introduced in this
section.

Value Stream Mapping
Learn about value stream mapping and this tool's value for
viewing processes and determining potential areas of
improvement. Draw a current state map and then learn about
concepts to help you improve your future state.

Stability and Process Improvements
Learn how to improve process stability, achieve demand stability
and improve manufacturing process efficiencies.

Just-in-Time
Determine customer demand, standard work, line balancing and
many other tools to meet customer demand. Participants will
explore the use of a heijunka system to meet customer demand
through a hands-on activity.

Measuring
Review the way a lean company measures and align measurements
with objectives. Topics include lean accounting, inventory
costs, target costs and lead time.

Sustaining
Learn about the long-term changes to sustain the gains made.
Topics include lean design, analyzing failures and ensuring
ongoing quality control and continuous improvement.
